Making It Happen...
Aimee Berger, Founder and Managing Partner, Camplified/Alternative Venue Entertainment
Aimee Berger is president of 2 Generations SPA Music Management (2G), a
music management and record label company, and founder of Alternative Venue
Entertainement, whose flagship property Camplified is redefining modern
entertainment at summer camps.
Aimee began her music business career in the A&R administration department
at Island Records' Miami Beach office. Later, while attending Southwestern
University Law School in Los Angeles, Aimee took an internship at Warner
Chappell, gaining first-hand experience at one of the largest music
publishing companies in the world. She soon began serving as a consultant to
unsigned bands, and upon passing the bar, she took a position with
BMG/Arista in business affairs.
In 1995 Aimee launched 2G as a consulting company for developing music
artists, which evolved into an artist management firm. In 1997, modern rock
quintet Lunch Box Heroes was signed as the company's debut act for artist
management, and within a year, the group signed a record deal with producer
Richard Gottherer (The Ravonettes, Blondie, co-founder Sire Records).
Shortly before LBH's label signing, Aimee began to bring on other partners
to fulfill the escalating needs of the band's rapid growth and quickly
signed another band, Into The Woods, a jam-rock quartet, fueling the
company's growth.
Within the last six years, Aimee has been at the helm of 2G's artist
management arm and record label, SPA Records, Inc., overseeing staff hiring
and talent signing, and managing the day-to-day activities on behalf of each
artist.
Beginning December 1999, SPA Records released its first compilation,
coinciding with a promotion tour to bring the music of breaking acts to the
attention of new audiences and industry professionals nationwide. A
subsequent conversation with her former partners, convinced them to pursue a
slightly unorthodox but highly successful promotional avenue.
The seeds of Camplified were planted.
To launch Camplified in 2003, Aimee, along with her partners, formed
Alternative Venue Entertainment, a joint venture with Trevanna
Entertainment, headed by industry veteran Carl Freed, and SPA Records.
In January 2004, Aimee's music management partners amicably parted ways with
Aimee and 2G to pursue other business endeavors. Presently, Aimee manages
Fifth Year Crush, Squeezetoy, Paolo Gregoletto of Metal Militia and bassist
for Trivium (Roadrunner Records), Tammany Hall, Dave Pittenger Band, and The
Bloody Lovelies (Cheap Lullaby Records), which consists of Eric Holden and
Craig MacIntyre of Josh Groban's band. Aimee has also expanded the roster
with a full production-management arm representing such notables as
songwriter/producer/arranger Russ Desalvo, producer/mixer Dug McGuirk,
producer Glen Robinson, production team The Churchills and Full Force, and
hip hop producer Manifest. The company also has developed its own label, SPA
Records, Inc.
Carl Freed, Tour Management and Managing Partner
For over a decade Carl Freed was senior vice president of business
development for the concert promotion firm Metropolitan Entertainment.
During this time, he secured a 25-year exclusive agreement with the
Hammerstein Ballroom in New York that according to one industry executive
"changed the fabric of the New York concert scene forever"; secured for
Metropolitan the first-ever U.S. arena / amphitheater Backstreet Boys tour
in 1998; developed a corporate entertainment division; developed and
maintained sponsorship for Metopolitan's venues and tours; developed
Metropolitan's hip-hop business that led to a partnership in Dream Team
Tours and promoted "Up In Smoke" featuring Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube,
Warren G and Eminem -- one of the most successful tours in its genre;
negotiated the largest web cast contract in history for Woodstock 1999.
In December 2002, Carl opened Trevanna Entertainment, a company that
provides consulting services for live musical events. Trevanna
Entertainment produces Hot 97's Summer Jam concerts at Giants Stadium, the
highest grossing hip hop show in the country two years running. It has
featuring Eminem, 50cent, Nelly, R Kelly, Kanye West, Nas, Lil Kim and other
major hip hop acts. Trevanna, in a joint venture with Spa Records, created
AVE (Alternative Venue Entertainment). In 2003, AVE produced the first
concert tour to play exclusively at summer camps. Headlined by up and coming
stars "Camplified" was hailed as "the most exciting thing to hit summers
camps in over 90 years!"
Carl is also managing director of the Independent Promoters LLC. This
company is a collection of the largest independent concert promoters in
North America who have come together to produce concert tours, one time
major events and use their combined efforts to secure corporate sponsorships
for their events. Carl lives in New Jersey with wife Jennifer and their two
young children.
